Lesson Plan 3: Too Small Tola
Objective: After reading "Too Small Tola " students will complete a project on different cultures of the world. They will use the website "Kid World Citizen" to take a virtual tour of a place of their interest and go through a day similar to Tola's where they have to shop and interact with other people.
Standards: ELA 9.31: Integrate multiple sources of information presented in diverse media or formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively, and/or orally), evaluating the credibility and accuracy of each source
Procedure:
1.) Have students read Too Small Tola.
2.) Have students decide on an area of the world they think would be interesting.
3.) Students will explore that location on "Kid World Citizen." This will allow them to immerse themselves in the area and really see what it actually looks like.
4.) Students will identify where they went, what the did there, and give a summary of their day.
5.) Students will present their findings to the class and guide everyone through the tour of the place they chose.
Assessment: Students will be assessed by the quality of their presentation and the tour that they give the class
Exceeds expectations:
Student identifies a location, does thorough research about it, and gives a thorough explanation of how they spent their virtual day their. When they present to the class, they are detailed and give a good tour.
Meets expectations:
Student identifies a location, has enough information to get the point across, and tells of a few things they could do there. Their presentation to the class covers the basics but does not go any further
Below expectations:
Student does not identify a location or do any research. The presentation is missing key components.
